Buxom Samantha's Smoky Eye Video

I did a look with the "Samantha's Smokey Eye" kit a while back but haven't played much with it until now. The new product in the kit is the Buxom eye shadow stick. I find it a bit hard to work with but I like the overall effect. Smokin' Pistol is a very dark black. By itself it is very very dramatic but you can easily soften the look by putting a shadow over it. I find it hard to get a really even layer of colour over my entire lid by blending, so I like to add another colour over it to even it out and soften the edges.

In the first look I used a purple shadow over Smokin' pistol and in the video I used Tinsel (blue).

EYES:

PTFE, wr/cr,
Snowflake under brow,
Buxom Smokin' Pistol lash to crease,
Snowmandance Amythest over smokin' pistol,
Buxom mascara.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2010 Runway Makeup with Bare Escentuals

I was reading Allure Magazine last night while at the gym and saw these pretty looks. I decided that I would copy the Oscar de la renta look because it is dramatic but wearable.

It took me about 40 min to do just my eyes. This look was not difficult to do it just requires blending layer of colour. Since this look has a broad triangle that is winged out it is a good idea to make the shape of the triangle with Captivate so you have a guide for the darker colours.

EYES:

PTFE, wr/cr,
Luminous Topaz under brow,
Captivate all the way into the crease and
blended up and out,
Aztec Gold lash to crease,
Happiness starting at the lash line and
blended up and out in a triangle and a little way into the crease,
Fame from lash line belnded up and out but
lower than happiness and part way across the
lid,
Bark blended up from the lash line to darken,
Fame along the outer half of the lower lash
line with Radiant Rebecca on the inner 1/2 of
the lower lash line,
Starlight to brighten the inner corner,
B&B in Intense Black along upper lash line,
Flawless definition mascara with Buxom
mascara over it.

Even More Buxom Eye Shadows: Bull Dog, Black Lab and Poodle

I don't have any swatches right now but maybe I'll get them done this weekend and update this post.
UPDATE:

As you  can tell I really like the Buxom Stay There shadows. UPDATE: Black lab is more sheer than I thought it would be. You really have to get a lot of product on your brush if you want to use it as a liner. But it also makes a great sheer black base for a smoky eye. I also felt like I had to really pack on Bull dog to get the right saturation of colour. I have never had a problem with Buxom eye shadows creasing before but all three of these creased a bit even though I used primer under them. Maybe it was because I used only the buxom shadows without some minerals mixed in, but I have heard other people complain of creasing so maybe it is the batch or the colours, I don't know. I'll let you know if anything changes.

The first look is a party look but I think it would be fine for daytime too. The second look is all I could manage this morning. I had to get up early to grade papers and I haven't been sleeping well--it shows. My students asked me if I'd been up all night grading their papers.

Two looks for Poetry and an Update on Brushes

I went to a poetry slam last night (it was great fun!) and I went to a poetry workshop this morning. So I felt the need to do some creative and dramatic looks.

I also just wanted to do an update on the both the Bare Escentuals mini brush set and the Eco Tools eye set.

I really like the BE mini brush set. You can easy use the flawless face brush for foundation, mineral veil and blush. Since it is synthetic it holds its shape well and allows you to get under your eyes and around your nose easily. If you are used to using a flathead face brush you might find it a little awkward to blend your foundation. The blush brush is good for radiance or highlighting. It is on the small side so I don't really like it for blush. The eye shadow brush works well especially for applying an overall base colour. It is a bit big for detailed crease work but if you just want to to a quick look I think it would do. The liner brush is nice. I think it is great for dry lining and smudging out liner pencil. I used it wet and had to struggle a little to get a precise line so I think I would bring my regular liner brush if I were traveling with this set.

I am also really liking the Eco tools set. The brushes are both fluffy and firm. The crease brush is very nice. It is a good shape and feels like nothing on your eye. However, it does seem do deposit a darker layer of colour than my natural hair crease brushes (but if you are doing a smoky eye that is not a bad thing). The angled eye shadow brush is great. You can get a light layer of shadow and since it is angled you can easily use it for blending out the crease. I also used it to apply the Buxom stay there shadows and it worked okay for that--I had to use multiple coats to get the colour right but it turned out well (I used this brush in my second look). The eye shadow brush is really nice for applying colour under the brow. The little tiny eye shadow brush is great for working in the inner and outer corner. I have been looking for a brush like this for a long time. It is fluffly enough that you can get a nice layer of colour and small enough that you can make the eye shadow go where you want it to. The liner/smudge brush is good for smudging out liner I haven't really used it for anything else yet. This brush set has some very nice brushes and since it is only $7.99 you might give it a try.

A fun colourful look (yellow, blue and green) with Bare Escentuals Lagoon

A friend sent me some Snowman dance colours in a trade, so many I will be trying them for quite a while (Thanks Sandia61!!). I like to try to make bright colours wearable. This may not be right for the office but you could easily pull this off for a night out.

You could do this look with all BE pretty easily. Just use Trophy Wife or lemon zinger for the yellow, Seashell for Iridescent green, Key lime for shamrock. If you don't have Lagoon you could always use French Navy. Shamrock reminds me of MAC landscape green and 12th night reminds me of MAC Chartruse. While I'm at it you could probably use MAC golden lemon for the yellow and MAC teal in place of electric.

EYES:
PTFE, wr/cr,
Snowman Dance (SD) Iridescent green under brow,
SD Yellow sun lash to crease on inner 1/2ish,
BE High Shine Electric in crease and outer 1/4,
SD Shamrock blended into Electric,
SD 12th Night in center of lid blended with Shamrock and yellow sun,
BE Lagoon wet lined on top Electric dry lined on bottom,
Falsies mascara.

CHEEKS: Irresistable blush

Plum and Navy

A while back I saw someone wearing this purple shirt with a navy sweater and I really liked the way it looked. I did a look back then with a more purple/pink and navy and it turned out pretty well. In one of the games on Majyk this week we were supposed to copy a very plum look and this is what I settled on. It is not as plum as I imagined it would be but I still like how it turned out. I really like the combination of Buxom Veinna and Plumtini gloss. I also have to say that French Navy is one of my top five favorite liners.

EYES:
PTFE, wr/cr,
Puzzle under brow,
Magical in crease,
High Shine Moonshine lash to crease,
French Navy wet lined on top,
Tarte mascara.
