Buxom Samantha's Smoky Eye and BE Smoky Eye Tutorial

I got my first Sephora Friends and Family sale order on Friday and just had to jump right in. I decided to start with the Buxom Samantha's Smoky Eye kit because it has a new product in it. The kit comes with a round tip brush, Buxom mascara, Buxom Shadow stick in Smokin' Pistol and Samantha buxom. The shadow stick is a new. I've heard that there will be more kits like the Samantha's smoky eye kit, so there will probably be more colours. Smokin' Pistol is black, very black, so it creates a really dark smoky eye when worn alone. I wish I had taken pictures of it by itself, but I'll do that later (I think I'll do a video). The shadow stick is the same size as a full size buxom lipstick. The shadow stick is similar to the MAC shadestick, so if you like shadesticks you will probably like the Buxom shadow stick.

I applied the shadow stick according to the directions on the box. It said to swipe the brush on the shadow stick and then blend it onto your eye lid. This worked pretty well but I wish it blended out more smoothly. It looked kind of blotchy. I tried a fluffy brush which helped a little but it still looked uneven. So I just did small strokes with the shadow stick and then blended with the brush. The brush is of medium stiffness, so it kind of starts to hurt to keep blending. Eventually I did manage to get an even layer and it looked good, but I was just going grocery shopping and need to make it a bit less dramatic so I added the HS moonshine.

The brush will be a nice addition to my collection. It was a little scratchy the first time I used it, but I washed it (to get the shadow off) and it seems softer now. It held its shape after washing and it does seem firm still.

The lipgloss is a really pretty nude with slight glod fleck. It is not opaque so the lip is not too pale with the dark eye.

Bare Escentuals Smoky Eye Tutorial (with celestine and skyline)

I don't actually own this kit (I've not looked at the box). I did finally get Skyline so technically I have all the pieces of the kit. This was the first in the Tutorial series. Overall I like how it turned out. Celestine is very sparkly and skyline is matte so they compliment each other very well.

Bare Escentuals All Wrapped Up and Sweet Sparklers

October has been a month of newness. I have been slowly working my way through all the new colours and products. I wanted to review All Wrapped Up today, even though I have only done one look with it, because I figure some people are trying to decide what to get during the Sephora F&F sale.

All Wrapped Up
This is a kit of 6 mini shadows. There are two old colours--present and the gift--and four new colours Garland, Mistletoe, Bauble, and Tinsel. All the colours are beautiful but Garland and Mistletoe look excatly like two old colours. Garland looks almost exactly like Heavenly Diamond and Mistletoe looks exactly like envy. I had swatches on my had and asked my DH if they were the same colour and he said yes about both pairs. Bauble is unique, but it is similar to in a jam and devotion. Devotion has a pink sheen-y sparkle and so does bauble. Bauble has a purple base that is not as dark as in a jam. When I was looking at tinsel in the jar I thought it looked like Sapphire but it doesn't. Sapphire is much more purple while Tinsel is a true blue. What they have in common is beutiful multi-coloured sparkle. I think Tinsel would look pretty with purples because of the sparkle. Present is a light pink with a slight sheen it is a great pink. The gift is a light bronze. I will have to play around with that one.

Sweet Sparklers
I love all things mini so Sweet Sparklers is right up my alley. You get two mini lipsticks and two mini 100% natural glosses in this kit. The darker shades are Rose Crepe and Kir Royal and the lighter shades are Sherbet and Pink Prosecco. Rose crepe is a deep rose shade. It has a glossy quality to it that I really love. It is not too dark for daytime and give you a defined lip without being dramatic. Kir Royal is a sheer plum gloss with sparkle, it will look great with lots of lipstick. Sherbet is a very light pink. When I had it on by itself my lips were almost invisible. It is creamy and opaque (Rose Crepe is more sheer). If you want a pink nude lip Sherbet will do the job. Although it is very light I actually like the way it looks but I think it will be too nude for some. The gloss is a pretty pink gloss.

Beyond Gorgeous

You have probably already seen pictures of this kit but I thought I would post my look any way. Since I don't usually use the B&B liners like Charbronze I used Charcoal Lame instead. I think the eye shadows in this kit are similar to others I have already. Satin Ruffle is similar in colour (but a different texture) to Pearl Sateen. Frills is a deep gray, I'm not sure I have anything exactly like it but if you used a gray and then charcoal lame you would end up with a very similar look.

The blush is really pretty and so is the gloss. I also love the jars with the ribbons. The little ribbon tucks into the space under the bottom of a regular eye shadow jar when you keep them on their sides so storage has not been an issue.

I am also wearing the new Gold Mineral Veil in this look. I love everything about the Gold MV set. I love the brush, the compact, the dispenser and the MV itself. I think I might even buy a second one. I wish they would make eye shadow and blush despensers like the ones in this compact.

EYES:
TFSI, wr/cr,
Satin Ruffle lash to brow,
Frills in crease and outer 1/4,
Charcoal lame wet lined on top,
Flawless Volumizing mascara.

CHEEKS: Gold MV, Pink Ribbon blush
LIPS: Icing lip gloss

Customer Blends Volume 3

The customer blends series is a quartet of eye colours created by customers. People submit their mixes via a thread on Bare Escentuals addicts forum or by submitting them to BE (I think), then BE chooses a few to make. I think this is the third set.

I tend to like brighter colours so my two favorites from this set are Stardust and Overjoyed. Overjoyed is really beautiful and unique, maybe it will come out as a single at some point.

I split this kit with a friend so I don't have the original jars or the tip card but I did do some swatches. I also wanted to wait to post this until I had done a look with each colour.

Smokin' Hot

CHEEKS: So Fab blush
LIPS: Rose Crepe lipstick with Kir Royal lip

For this look I used Chenille and Drama from the sample cards I got with my BE.com order. I am not sure that these card are the best way to introduce new customers to BE because they are a little hard to use, especially with the brush provided. You really can't apply the eye shadow with the brush provided. You kind of have to swirl your brush really hard on the card to get the eye shadow to come off. I used the blending brush which worked well and the crease defining brush which also worked. But if someone tried to use the tiny brush the cards come with I doubt they would want to try the eye shadows--which is really sad.
